Men's Soccer drops MVC season opener 2-0 to SIUE

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville men's soccer team (2-6-1) lost their MVC season opener to SIUE 2-0 on Monday night.
 
Senior goalkeeper Eric Teppen made six saves in the match.
 
Evansville nearly scored in the 10th minute. Junior midfielder Faik Hajderovic blasted a shot from the top of the 18 yard box that sailed high.
 
The match stayed scoreless until the 33rd minute when Garet Christianson moved into towards the UE net and got taken down by Teppen. The foul led to a yellow card for Teppen and a penalty kick for Christianson. On the kick, Christianson booted the ball to the open left side of the net for the 1-0 lead. The goal for Christianson was his first of the season.
 
The Cougars held that 1-0 lead into the half.
 
After the break, UE was able to string four consecutive corners together but couldn't quite find the equalizer.
 
Still up by one, SIUE added to their lead with a goal in the 33rd minute. A ricocheting ball went to the top of the 18 yard box for Matt Polster who scored to the right side of the net. It was the second goal of the season for Polster and pushed SIUE ahead 2-0.
 
Evansville was unable to rally back the remainder of the night, losing the match by a pair of goals.

The Purple Aces tallied six corner kicks compared to four for the Cougars. SIUE outshot Evansville 15-6.
 
The Purple Aces will now host Central Arkansas on Saturday, October 4 at 5:00 p.m. It is Evansville's annual Pink Game and the Purple Aces will be wearing special pink colored jerseys. The match will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
