Aces Tennis Concludes MVC Individual Championships

Peoria, IL–
The University of Evansville Women's Tennis team concluded day two of the MVC Individual Championships on Saturday.  Junior Andjela Brguljan was the high finisher on the weekend with a 4th place finish at flight three singles.  Senior Marina Moreno was able to pick up a victory on Saturday to earn a 5th place finish in flight one singles.  With Saturday's results, the Aces have concluded this year's MVC Individual Championships.
 
Moreno was able to get the Aces off to a great start on Saturday at flight one singles when she was able to take the 5th place match over Drake's Maddie Johnson in dramatic fashion by a score of 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.  Marine Darzyan fell in her 5th place match in equally dramatic fashion when she took a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 loss to Elvira Lopez of Northern Iowa.
 
After getting to the flight three semifinals on Friday, junior Andjela Brguljan fell in her first match on Saturday by a score of 6-2, 6-3 to Summer Brills of Drake.  Brguljan then went on to face Katie Fries of Southern Illinois and lost by a score of 6-0, 6-1 which gave her a 4th place finish on the weekend.  Freshman Doreen Crasta finished in 6th place at flight four singles when she fell to Sydney Wolfe of Northern Iowa by a score of 7-5, 6-1.
 
Kennedy Craig also finished in 6th place this weekend when she took a 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 loss to Eve Small of Northern Iowa on Saturday.  Lastly in singles play, at flight seven singles, Elizabeth Mendes finished up her weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 loss against Abbey Belote of Missouri State giving Mendes a 6th place finish.
 
In doubles action on Saturday, Doreen Crasta and Marine Darzyan fell to Alejandra de Lasa and Ashley Thai of Bradley at flight one doubles by a score of 8-6 in their consolation round.  Kennedy Craig and Marina Moreno also fell in their consolation round match at flight two doubles by a score of 8-4 to Bradley's Alexa Brandt and Malini Wijesinghe.  Lastly, in doubles play, Elizabeth Mendes and Leah Helpingstine were also not able to win their consolation match against Savanna Hunt and Eve Small of Northern Iowa with a 8-2 defeat.
 
The Aces will finish up their fall schedule Oct. 15-19 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional which will take place at Purdue University in West Lafeyette, IN.
