Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship Results

EVANSVILLE, Ind.
– On a crisp and cloudy morning at Angel Mounds, the University of Evansville hosted the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships.

The Purple Aces had some of their best times of the season all the way around as each female either ran their personal best or top time of the season.  On the men's side, one PR was set while two season lows were recorded.

"It was a great day to run, as long as we can continue to set PR's and season best times, it is a good day," UE head coach Don Walters said.  "That is what we work for all year long, so we definitely accomplished a lot today."

Sienna Crews led the women with her top collegiate time.  Her 18:33.87 was almost 23 seconds under her top time, which was set at the UE Invitational two weeks ago.  She came home in 45th place.  Ten spots behind her was Elizabeth Kingshott, who posted her best time of the season –a 19:06.67 to take 55th.

Continuing her emergence this season was Michelle Karp.  She lowered her time each and every race in 2015 and that trend continued on Saturday.  Karp finished with a time of 19:32.83, which was six seconds under her PR from two weeks ago.  What is just as impressive is that her first 5K time this season was a 21:40.7 and she improved her time by over two minutes.

Fourth for UE was freshman Ashton Bosler, who checked in with a personal best of 20:09.09.  That was 14 seconds better than her top time, which was set at the Greater Louisville Classic.  Next up was Laurel Wolfe with a 20:25.21.  It was her best time of the year by 0.4.

Also registering a PR was Hayley Elliott.  The freshman finished the 5K in a time of 21:33.75 and that was nine seconds better than her old best.  Also running their best times of the season were Anna Loef (21:55.63) and Katie Beaber (22:03.94).

Taking top honors in the race was Bradley's Caitlin Busch.  Her winning time finished at 16:54.20.  Ariel Michalek of Illinois State was second at 16:57.78 while the other Busch sister – Kristen – was third at 17:01.41.  The Busch sisters helped the Braves to the team championship.  Bradley won with 54 points while Wichita State was second with 76 and Illinois State came home third with 94.

Ross Frondorf was the top runner for the guys in the 8K championship.  His 27:56.44 was his lowest time of the season.  It was also 1.5 seconds ahead of fellow junior Ben Woolems, who also had his lowest time of the year.  Woolems checked in with a 27:57.94.

Third on the team was Paul Schwartz, who registered a final of 29:16.17.  Andrew Barrett posted a personal record on Saturday.  His 29:16.88 was eight seconds under his previous mark, which he ran at the Greater Louisville Classic.  Next up was Jordan Carpenter, who finished in 29:55.07 while James Paul (30:26.53) and Vince Cecil (30:51.39) rounded out the squad.

For the fourth time in as many seasons, Indiana State runner John Mascari won the race.  His time of 23:39.06 was over 21 seconds better than his nearest competition, Drake's Reed Fischer.  Brandon Shemonia of Southern Illinois was third with a 24:01.83.  Bradley made a clean sweep of the team championships, earning 67 points to defeat the duo of Illinois State and Wichita State, who tied for second with 78 tallies.
