Women’s Hoops ready for Cal Poly Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Purple Aces continue their 6-game season-opening road trip with a berth in the Cal Poly/ShareSLO Holiday Tournament in San Luis Obispo, Calif.  Evansville begins the tournament on Friday with a 7 p.m. CT matchup versus Montana State before facing Santa Clara on Saturday in a 5 p.m. CT match.
 
Evansville grabbed its first win of the season last week at Cleveland State, taking down the Vikings by a final score of 72-63.  Sara Dickey led the way with 19 points while Ashley Hawkins had the best game of her young career, posting 16 points to go along with four rebounds.
 
An unbelievable week saw UE junior Sara Dickey average 22 points per game while leading the Aces to their first win of the season.  She opened the week up with a season-high 25 points and 5 3-pointers in a double overtime loss at Miami.  She was 8-22 from the field, but had three rebounds, three steals and three assists.  Two days later, Dickey helped UE pick up a victory at Cleveland State as she registered 19 points, knocking down another five 3-pointers.
 
Freshman Kerri Gasper has been a solid second weapon behind junior Sara Dickey.  Through three games, Gasper has scored 12.7 points per game while hauling in 4.7 boards.  Gasper's top effort so far was a 20-point outing at Miami where she knocked down four triples.
 
An interesting note is that in all three games thus far, a different player has been the No. 2 scorer for the Purple Aces.  While Sara Dickey has been the top scorer each time out, it has been another teammate contributing behind her.  In the opener against Xavier, it was Aaliyah Gaines finishing with 14 points.  Kerri Gasper took her turn at Miami, posting 20 points while the win at Cleveland State saw Ashley Hawkins post 16 points in the victory.
