Evansville, IN – The University of Evansville Softball Team heads to Mobile, AL this weekend for the South Alabama Mardi Gras Invitational. The tournament will feature the likes of Butler, Lipscomb, Oklahoma State, and the host South Alabama. UE is slated to play on Friday at 10:15 a.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and then will finish up on Sunday at 12:15 a.m.
Last weekend the Aces opened play at Auburn in the Plainsman Invite. The Aces dropped three out of four but were able to pick up their first victory of the season against UAB to wrap up the tournament. Susan Norris had five hits in the tournament and currently leads the team in batting average at .385. Chandra Parr was able to start the season off with a bang, finishing the tournament with her first two homeruns of the year. Hayli Scott also had a great start to the season. Scott had her first homerun of the year and is currently second on the team with a batting average of .375.
Evansville will face Butler first on Friday. The Bulldogs enter the tournament with a 2-2 record. Their record includes victories over both University of Illinois-Chicago and Samford. On Saturday Aces will start off against Lipscomb. The Bison are sitting at 3-1 with victories over University of Missouri-Kansas City, IUPUI, and Indiana St. On Saturday afternoon the Aces will take on Oklahoma State who currently has a record of 0-3 with all three loses belonging to Arizona. Evansville will end the tournament against host South Alabama who is currently ranked 23
rd in the national rankings. The Jaguars boast victories over Liberty University, McNeese State University, and the University of Houston. South Alabama is 3-2 overall.
After this weekend the Aces return to Alabama one more time to play in the Firehouse Invite hosted by Troy University. The Aces will see their first home action on March 14
th when they take on conference opponent Loyola.
