Aces Softball Goes 1-1 in First Day of Mizuno Classic

The University of Evansville Women's Softball team (5-15, 0-0 MVC) began the Mizuno Classic at Oklahoma State on Friday.  The Aces were able to grab a 3-2 victory over the University of Missouri-Kansas City.  The Aces then took on the host Oklahoma State and were defeated by a score of 18-7. 
 
In game one of the day for the Aces, Evansville took on the Kangaroos from the University of Missouri- Kansas City.  The Aces were able to grab a 3-2 victory in the contest.  UMKC got things going early against the Aces as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third when Katie Kelley hit a two run homerun.  The Aces responded in the bottom of the fourth with a two homerun of their own that was hit by Susan Norris.  In the bottom of the six Michal Luckett hit a solo homerun down the left field line securing a 3-2 victory for the Aces.  Amanda Blankenship picked up the victory going all seven innings giving up two runs on seven hits.  Blankenship also struck out 10 batters.
 
The Aces then took on host Oklahoma State.  In the top of the first Evansville was able to get a run from Chandra Parr when Hayli Scott singled through the left side.  Scott was later able to score for the Aces when Abbi Fahse drew a walk making the score 2-0 in favor of the Aces.  The Aces were able to grab another run in the top of the third when Michal Luckett scored off a Courtney Land single increasing the Aces lead to 3-0.  Oklahoma State responded with a big inning in the bottom of the third scoring six of their own making the score 6-3 in favor of the Cowgirls.  Morgan Lambert started the fourth with a double to right center.  Parr followed that with a homerun cutting the lead to 6-5.  Ashlee Kawall was then able to score off a fielder's choice from Luckett tying the game up at six a piece.  In the bottom of the fourth the Cowgirls were able to pick up four more runs making the score 10-6 in favor of Oklahoma State.  In the top of the fifth Fahse was able to score off a Courtney Land single cutting the lead to 10-7. The Cowgirls were able to grab four more runs in the bottom of the fifth increasing the lead to 14-7.  In the bottom of the sixth the Cowgirls grabbed four more runs to end the game with a final score of 18-7.
 
The Aces will be back in action tomorrow when they will take on UCONN at 11:00 a.m. CT.  The link for live stats can be found here:

The Aces will finally see home action on March 14th when they take on conference opponent Loyola.
