Evansville, IN–
The University of Evansville Softball Team (10-34, 2-15 MVC) was able to split their doubleheader against the Southern Illinois Salukis on Wednesday night.  The Aces dropped the first game by a score of 2-0.  Game two went to the Aces in walk off fashion when Courtney Land singled scoring Abbi Fahse and Ashlee Kawall to secure the 5-4 victory.

Game one was a low scoring affair and ultimately was a pitcher's duel.  The Salukis got things going quickly when Kaylyn Harker homered to left field to make the score 1-0.  The score would remain 1-0 until the top of the seventh when Shaye Harre hit a solo shot to give the salukis an insurance run.  The game would go final at 2-0 in favor of the Salukis.

For the Salukis Katie Bertelsen went the distance throwing all seven innings giving up zero runs on just five hits.  Cecilia Dopart went all seven innings as well for the Aces giving up two runs on only six hits.

Evansville would be the one to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in game two when Danielle Freeman hit her 10th homer of the season.  The game would remain 1-0 when the Aces were able to get another run in the bottom of the fourth when Morgan Lambert hit a triple to score Abbi Fahse.

Southern Illinois would respond though in the top of the fifth.  After loading the bases, Harre singled up the middle to score Kelsey Gonzalez.  The Salukis were able to get another run when Merri Ann Patterson walked to score Harker making the score 2-2.  The Salukis would get two more in the top of the sixth as well when Harre singled through the right side scoring Gonzalez and Jessa Thomas making the score 4-2 in favor of the Salukis.

The Aces came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh with a chance to win in walk off fashion.  Hayli Scott got things going when she was able to draw a walk.  Susan Norris was then able to single to right field.  After a pitching change, Fahse came in and singled scoring Scott to make the score 4-3.  Courtney Land then came up to the plate and singled scoring Fahse and Kawall to secure the 5-4 victory for the Aces.

Evansville will be back in action this weekend when they play host to Northern Iowa.  Game times on Saturday are set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. CDT.  The series will wrap up on Sunday when they play at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
