Evansville, IN–
The University of Evansville Softball Team (10-35, 2-17 MVC) hosted the Northern Iowa Panthers in doubleheader action at Cooper Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  The Aces lost game one by a score of 7-0 as the Panthers showed some dominant pitching.  Game two was much closer as the Aces fell just short by a score of 8-7.  Northern Iowa went ahead in the top of the seventh and held the Aces off in bottom half of the inning to secure the victory.

Northern Iowa got things going early in game one when they got two run homeruns from both Rikki Alcaraz and Chelsea Ross to make the score a quick 4-0 for the Panthers.  They were able to add a run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning to secure the 7-0 win.  Ross had a dominant performance on the mound.  She went all seven innings, while allowing only five hits in her complete game shutout.

Game two was a much different story.  Northern Iowa once again jumped out to a quick lead going up 3-0 in the top of the first.  Evansville responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second when Courtney Land scored off a Morgan Lambert single.  The Panthers again added three runs in the top of the third and then added another in the top of the fourth to make the score 7-1.

The Aces were able to get things going in the bottom of the fifth.  They got runners on after the Panthers committed two errors in the inning.  They were then able to get runs from Ashlee Kawall, Michal Luckett, Chandra Parr.  The bottom of the sixth also featured the Aces getting three more runs.  Lambert was able to score when Luckett doubled to left center. Luckett then scored later in the inning when Parr reached on an error.  Hayli Scott then singled to right field scoring Parr and making the score 7-7 heading into the seventh and final inning.

Northern Iowa was able to take the lead in the top of the seventh when Alcaraz hit her second homer of the day.  It was a solo shot that made the score 8-7 in favor of the Panthers.  The Aces were then unable to get anything going in the bottom half of inning securing the win for the Panthers.

Pending the weather the Aces will finish up their series with UNI tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. CDT.  Stayed tuned to gopurpleaces.com for updates on postponements and cancellations.  The Aces next home action will be this Tuesday when they host a double header against Murray State.
