INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The University of Evansville Athletics Department participated in the NCAA National Student Athlete Day on Tuesday.
Four student athletes made the trip to Indianapolis representing the Purple Aces -
Juan Acosta of the UE men's golf team,
Bronwyn Boswell from the women's soccer team,
Vince DiPrimio of the men's soccer team and
Laura Friday from the women's basketball team.
The student athletes participated in leadership and professional development programming and a service project with youth from the Indianapolis community.
This year, youth from the Indianapolis Dream Center partnered with student-athletes to pack over 23,000 bags of food for the Gleaners Food Bank.
"I loved working with the other student athletes, NCAA staff, and kids above everything else," said
Bronwyn Boswell, sophomore midfielder on the UE women's soccer team. "Helping families in need was an important part of the experience, but it was fun because the people involved had a great, positive attitude, were having fun, and were invested in the overall purpose and goal of today. I'm thankful for the opportunity and hope to return!"
NCAA President Dr. Mark Emmert also addressed the group highlighting the importance of performing in the classroom and helping the community.
"We appreciate the opportunity the NCAA provides annually for our student-athletes to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day," said
Sarah Solinsky, Senior Associate Athletics Director/SWA at UE.
The student athletes also visited with two UE alums who work at the NCAA – Binh Nguyen and Joni Williamson (Davidson), who was a swimmer at Evansville.
