Aces Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Austin Peay

Evansville, IN–
The University of Evansville Softball Team (9-30, 1-11 MVC) was able to pick up two victories on Wednesday when the swept the Austin Peay Governors in doubleheader action.  The Aces were able to win the first game by a score of 15-8.  Game two went eight innings but the Aces survived a tough fought game to get a 3-2 victory.
 
In game one, the Aces jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Courtney Land hit a single that scored Abbi Fahse and Hayli Scott.  In the top of the third, Chandra Parr hit a solo homerun to make it 3-0 in favor of the Aces.  Later in the third, Danielle Freeman singled down the left field line scoring Michal Luckett.  In the bottom of the third, Niya Sparks hit a grand slam for the Governors to tie the game at four a piece.  Rikki Arkansas then singled to score Mel Pavel and Morgan Hoeg making the score 6-4 in favor of the Governors.
 
In the top of the fourth, the Aces got things going again when Michal Luckett singled to center field scoring both Morgan Lambert and Courtney Land.  Danielle Freeman then hit a solo homerun to make the score 9-6 in favor of the Aces.  Christiana Gable then homered for the Governors scoring Laurel Burroughs making the score 9-8.
 
Abbi Fahse was able to score in the top of the sixth after Land singled to center field.  Land was then able to score off a sacrifice fly by Parr.  The Aces were able to get four more runs in the top of the sixth off homeruns from Fahse and Morgan Lambert to make the score 15-8, which in the end would be the final score as the Aces pick up the win.
 
Austin Peay was able to get on the board first in game two when Vinchenza DiBenedetto doubled to score Laurel Burroughs.  In the top of the fourth, Evansville was able to tie it up when Land doubled to right center to score Ashlee Kawall.  The Aces were able to take the lead in the top of the sixth when Fahse scored off a Land hit making the score 2-1.  Austin Peay was able to tie it back up in the bottom half of the inning when Arkansas score off a Chandler Groves double.
 
The game was tied 2-2 after seven and had to go to extra innings.  The Aces were able to load the bases when Chandra Parr was hit by a pitch which scored Hayli Scott to make the score 3-2.  Cecilia Dopart was able to get three big outs with a runner on third to secure the victory for the Aces.  Dopart pitched a total of 8.0 innings while giving up two runs on eight hits.
 
The Aces will be back in action this weekend when they head to Indiana State to take on the Sycamores.  The first two games of the three game set will be played on Saturday with start times at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. CDT.  They will wrap the series up on Sunday when they play at 12:00 p.m. CDT.  The Aces next home action will be on Tuesday April 14th when the Aces take on Southern Illinois.
