BOX SCORE (PDF)

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –
The University of Evansville women's soccer team (0-1) lost the regular season opener 3-2 to the Xavier Musketeers (1-0) on Friday night. The Purple Aces tallied two first half goals but the Musketeers scored twice in the second half and again in overtime to claim the victory.

"It was a high level opening game," said head women's soccer coach Krista McKendree . "I thought we competed well and am pleased with a lot of what I saw. We have to learn from our mistakes for sure and I know we will. We put ourselves in a position to get a result tonight and that is what we are looking for at this point."

Evansville went ahead on a 14th minute goal from junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell. She took a loose ball in the six yard box, regained control and scored in the upper left corner for the 1-0 Aces lead.

Up by one, UE then increased the advantage to two on a goal from freshman Sara Osinski in the 26th minute. Senior midfielder Allie Arguello fed a ball from midfield to the top of the 18 yard box for Osinski, who bested the goalkeeper on an over the top ball.

Down 2-0, Xavier began the second half by scoring two goals in the 49th minute to tie up the game. The goals occurred in a span of 25 seconds.

Even at two, Evansville nearly recorded the game winning goal in the 81st minute but Boswell's strike from the right wing was saved by Xavier's leaping goalkeeper, Rachel Piccus.

The teams then went into overtime where Maddie Tierney collected a Musketeers' blocked shot 10 yards out and tallied the game winner in the 93rd minute.

On the stat sheet, Boswell's 12th career goal was paired with Osinski's first collegiate goal. Arguello's assist was just her second in 52 total matches. Boswell and freshman midfielder Molly Lear totaled a team-high four shots on the night. Goalkeeper Whitney Biggs recorded three total saves.

UE will host a soccer doubleheader on Sunday, August 23 with the women's team hosting UT-Martin at 1:00 p.m. CDT and the men's squad playing IUPUI in an exhibition at 5:00 p.m. CDT. Both matches will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
