UE Women's Soccer Hosts UT-Martin on Sunday

LIVE STATS | UE GAME NOTES

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Evansville women's soccer team (0-1) continues their opening weekend homestand when the Purple Aces host UT-Martin (0-1) on Sunday, Aug. 23. The match will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium and start at 1:00 p.m. CDT.

 

WHAT TO KNOW

·         Evansville is looking for their first win of the season

·         The Aces eye their first win over UT-Martin since 2013 (3-0 victory on Aug. 30 at home)

·         UE has never allowed a goal in their two wins over UT-Martin (outscored 10-0).

 

THE OPPONENT

UT-Martin lost their season debut to Western Kentucky 3-1 on Aug. 21. Saphyra Coombs-James scored the only goal for the Skyhawks. UTM was 12-6-2 last year including a 6-3-1 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference.

 

LAST TIME OUT

Evansville lost their season opener 3-2 to Xavier on Aug. 21. The Aces received two goals early from junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell and freshman forward Sara Osinski but the Musketeers tallied the final three goals of the match for the victory.

 

THE COACHES

Evansville is led by eighth year head coach Krista McKendree (53-63-17). UT-Martin is guided by Phil McNamara (58-37-10), who is in his sixth season guiding the Skyhawks.

 

HISTORY

Evansville is 2-2-1 all-time against UT-Martin. UE lost the last meeting 1-0 in Martin, Tenn. on Sept. 3, 2014. The Aces won the last matchup at UE 3-0 (8/30/13). Evansville also was victorious in the first ever meeting (a 7-0 win in 2001).

 

WE'RE NUMBER ONE

The UE women's soccer team was ranked #1 in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference preseason coach's poll. The Aces will look to unseat back to back champion Illinois State for the title this year. Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell, senior goalkeeper Simone Busby, and sophomore forward Montana Portenier were named to the preseason All-Conference team. Sophomore midfielder/forward Nicki Baham received honorable mention.

 

NATIONAL HONOR

Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby will be playing for the Guyana National Team as they compete in CONCACAF Qualifying this month. Busby posted a clean sheet in an 8-0 win over St. Kitts and Nevis on Aug. 21

 

UP FOR THE CHALLENGE

Evansville will play three teams that completed last season in the RPI Top 100. Those opponents are Illinois State (32), Miami (Ohio) (58), and Vanderbilt (96).
 

 

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS

UE will have a Field of Dreams Uganda Fundraiser Game vs. Miami (Ohio) on Sun., Aug. 30. The Aces have a Military Appreciation / Wounded Warrior game with Belmont on Fri., Sept. 11. The annual Multiple Sclerosis match with homecoming on Sat., Sept. 26. Senior Day festivities are set for Thurs., Oct. 29.

 

HOSTING THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Evansville is hosting the 2015 MVC Women's Soccer Championship this year. The semifinals will take place on Fri., Nov. 6 with the Championship match to take place on Sun., Nov. 8. All matches will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
