EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Despite outshooting their opponent 18-6, the University of Evansville women's soccer team (1-5-1) played to a scoreless tie with Belmont University (1-3-1) on Friday night. UE continues the weekend homestand by hosting IUPUI on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m. CDT.

"We created enough chances tonight, but we just have to get more out of them," said Evansville head women's soccer coach Krista McKendree. "I thought the girls increased the defensive pressure in the second half which was a bit lacking in the first."

The Purple Aces threatened to take the lead in the second minute but a shot from sophomore forward Nicki Baham sailed high. Belmont's goalkeeper Stephanie Bukovec also recorded a pair of saves on sophomore defender Olivia Shafer and freshman forward Sara Osinski in the 29^th minute.

UE outshot Belmont 8-1 in the opening half but neither team was able to take the lead.

In the second half, there was only one shot on goal, an 84th attempt from freshman midfielder Molly Lear that resulted in another Bukovec save.

Still scoreless, Evansville came closest to a win in the first overtime period when the Aces had two corner kicks in the 96^th minute. Shafer headed one of those service balls left and seconds later, had another header go wide right.

In double overtime, Belmont tried to secure the win. An Allie Svoboda 102^nd minute shot was heading near the goal but UE senior goalkeeper Simone Busby was able to punch the ball away.

Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell led all players with five shots. Busby recorded two saves in the match.

UE's next match with IUPUI will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium and begin at 1:00 p.m. CDT.
