EVANSVILLE, Ind.
– The duo of Genesis Miranda and Mildrelis Rodriguez had another stellar offensive outing as they led the University of Evansville volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Western Illinois in Saturday's opening match of the Dunn Hospitality Tournament.

Miranda led the Purple Aces (5-5) with 14 kills while Rodriguez finished with 11.  Lorena Marquez continued to rack up the assists, posting 30 while Kim Deprez added to her team-leading dig total with 22.  Stephanie Cerino and Rocio Fortuny finished with five kills apiece.  The Leathernecks (0-9) had three players tied with five kills each.

Evansville got off to a great start against the Leathernecks, earning a 25-13 win to begin the day.  After WIU scored the opening three tallies, Lorena Marquez served UE to nine points in a row to grab the lead.  Just as fast, Western Illinois battled back, cutting the deficit to just one at 10-9.  From there, Evansville buckled down, outscoring the Leathernecks by a 15-4 score to earn the win.  UE continued its hot hitting, finishing at .375.

In game two, Genesis Miranda and Mildrelis Rodriguez recorded five kills apiece in leading UE to a 25-17 triumph.  WIU posted the first two points, but Evansville came back to take its first lead at 4-3 on a Rodriguez kill.  That was part of a 6-1 stretch after the Leathernecks scored the first two.  Up 14-10, Evansville scored nine of the next 13 points as they opened up a 23-14 lead.  Gabriela Roman registered a kill in the stretch.  Western Illinois scored two unanswered points before Miranda put the game away with a kill.

Western Illinois put up a strong fight in the third game.  Evansville got an early 4-1 jump, but the Leathernecks kept on fighting, tying the game up at 6-6 and taking a 15-14 lead on a Kaili Simmons service ace.  Cerino made the difference down the stretch as her kill with the score tied at 18-18 got the Aces back on track.  UE finished the set on a 7-1 run to clinch the match.

Evansville is back on the floor tonight as they face Northern Kentucky at 6 p.m.
