UE Women’s Soccer Visits Saint Louis on Thursday

UE GAME NOTES 

ST. LOUIS –
After a weekend of home matches, the University of Evansville women's soccer team (2-5-1) is back on the road to play at Saint Louis University (4-3-0) on Thursday night. The match will be held at Robert R. Hermann Stadium and begin at 7:00 p.m. CDT.
 
WHAT TO KNOW
  • UE is looking to record back to back wins for the first time this season.
  • Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell is the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week
  • With a win, Evansville will have their first victory at St. Louis since 1998.
 
THE OPPONENT
Saint Louis started the season with back to back wins, then suffered two losses before finally rebounding with back to back victories. The Billikens lost their last match 4-3 against Drake of the MVC last weekend. SLU has 19 returning players (eight starters) and also have 10 newcomers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Boswell scored the equalizer in the 48th minute and the game winner in the 55th minute for a 2-1 victory over IUPUI. Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby recorded two saves including a leaping stop in the 88th minute.
 
THE COACHES
UE is led by eighth year head coach Krista McKendree, a four year standout with the Purple Aces and the only All-American in UE women's soccer history.
 
Saint Louis' head coach is Katie Shields who is in her third season.
 
HISTORY
Saint Louis leads the all-time series with Evansville 5-4-1. UE eyes their first win over the Billikens since 2001 (W 1-0). The Purple Aces are 2-2-1 all-time on the road at St. Louis and are looking for their first win at SLU since 1998.

LEADING OFF
Boswell leads all Purple Aces with three goals, two assists, eight points and one game winning goal this season. Senior midfielder Allie Arguello and freshman midfielder Molly Lear also have a team-best two assists each. Lear's 21 shots and 10 on goal are the highest totals among her teammates. Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby has the lowest GAA (0.96) and highest saves percentage (.800) on the Aces this season.
 
WHAT AN HONOR
Boswell was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 15) for her two goal game vs. IUPUI. This is the first Player of the Week honor in her collegiate career.
 
TRIPLING, DOUBLING AND MULTIPLYING
Entering Sunday's action, Evansville was being outscored 8-1 in the second half. Boswell's second half goals not only tripled the Aces production after halftime but it also gave them their first win since beating Miami (Ohio) on Aug. 30.
 
WE'RE NUMBER ONE
The UE women's soccer team was ranked #1 in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference preseason coach's poll. The Aces will look to unseat back to back champion Illinois State for the title this year. Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell, senior goalkeeper Simone Busby, and sophomore forward Montana Portenier were named to the preseason All-Conference team. Sophomore midfielder/forward Nicki Baham received honorable mention.
 
NATIONAL HONOR
Busby missed the team's first two games competing for the Guyana National Team in CONCACAF Qualifying. They won 8-0 over St. Kitts and Nevis and then tied Cuba 1-1. Guyana advanced to the next round over Cuba on goal differential. 
 
UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
Evansville will play three teams that completed last season in the RPI Top 100. Those opponents are Illinois State (32), Miami (Ohio) (58), and Vanderbilt (96).
 
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
The annual Multiple Sclerosis match with Homecoming is on Saturday, Sept. 26. Senior Day festivities are set for Thursday, Oct. 29.
 
HOSTING THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Evansville is hosting the 2015 MVC Women's Soccer Championship this year. The semifinals will take place on Fri., Nov. 6 with the Championship match to take place on Sunday, Nov. 8. All matches will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
