Bowling Green, OH –The Purple Aces women's tennis team finished up day one of the BGSU Invite on Friday at Bowling Green State University.  UE saw action against BGSU, University of Illinois at Chicago, IUPUI, Wright State, Toledo, Chicago State, and Detroit.
 
In flight one singles action, senior Marina Moreno was defeated by Polina Radeva of BGSU by a score of 6-4, 6-4.  She later saw action against Valeriia Lvrenchuk of IUPUI and won by default.  She will compete for 5^th place on Saturday against Carynne Lloyd of Chicago State.
 
Freshman Marine Darzyan was able to pick up a victory at flight two singles when she defeated Hanna Pangestu of Chicago State by a score of 6-3, 6-1.  She then took on Valeryia Kilikovskaya and was defeated by a score of 4-6, 6-0, 1-0(7).  She will take on Lauren Thai of Toledo for 3^rd place at flight two singles tomorrow.
 
UE freshman Doreen Crasta was also able to pick up a win at flight three singles when she defeated Monica Pulgar of Chicago State by a score of 6-2, 6-2.  She then faced Emily Witt of BGSU and was defeated by a score of 7-6(5), 7-6(4).  She too will compete in the third place match tomorrow when she takes on Emily Mazzola of Toledo.
 
Junior Andjela Brguljan represented UE at flight four singles and was defeated in her first match by Mariella Pessina of IUPUI by a score of 6-1, 6-1.  Brguljan was able to turn it around though in her second match and defeat Drew Fillis of BGSU by a score of 6-1, 6-4.  She will compete tomorrow against Oana Manole of UIC for 5^th place in the invite.
 
Kennedy Craig was able to defeat Marnie Perez-Ochoa of Chicago State by a score of 7-5, 2-0 (injury) at flight five singles.  She then took on Colleen O'Brien of Toledo and was defeated by a score of 6-2, 6-0.  She will face Bianca Zuru of UIC tomorrow for third place.
 
Junior Elizabeth Mendes saw action at flight six singles when she took on Rani Goodland of Toledo.  Goodland was able to defeat Mendes by a score of 6-0, 6-0.  Mendes fared better in her second match of the day when she took on Yevgenia Pleshkan of IUPUI, but in the end was defeated by a score of 6-1, 6-2.  Mendes will compete for 7^th place tomorrow against Leeah Floyd of BGSU.
 
At flight seven singles, Leah Helpingstine was defeated by Lauren Smith of Wright State 6-0, 6-0 and will take on Hayley Trinkle of IUPUI tomorrow.
 
Doreen Crasta and Marine Darzyan were able to pick up a victory at flight one doubles beating Leshia Gadacz and Hanna Pangestu of Chicago State by a score of 6-1.  They were again victorious in their second match beating Valeriia Lavernchuk and Samantha Mayer of IUPUI by a score of 6-2.  They will compete for the championship tomorrow against Paula Cornella and Drew Fillis of BGSU.
 
At flight two doubles, Andjela Brguljan and Kennedy Craig took the loss against Emily Mazzola and Mackenzie Bowman of Toledo by a score of 6-0.  They were again defeated by Oana Manole and Rachel Le Comber of UIC by a score 6-1 and will take on Carynne Lloyd and Marnie Perez-Ochoa of Chicago State for 7^th place tomorrow.
 
Finally at flight three doubles, Leah Helpingstine and Elizabeth Mendes were defeated by both Claire Aleck and Rani Goodland of Toledo and Bryttish Burts  and Monica Pulgar of Chicago State by a score of 6-0.  They will wrap things up tomorrow against Antonia Farrar and Leeah Floyd of BGSU for 7^th place.
