UE Women’s Soccer Visits Vanderbilt on Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -
The University of Evansville women's soccer team (2-6-1) concludes their weekend on the road when the Purple Aces visit Vanderbilt (4-4-1) on Sunday afternoon. The match will be held at VU Soccer/Lacrosse Complex and begin at 4:00 p.m. CDT.
 
WHAT TO KNOW
  • This is the final non-conference test for UE before entering Missouri Valley Conference action at home against Loyola on Friday, Sept. 26.
  • Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell is the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
  • This is the first meeting between Evansville and Vanderbilt since 1997.
  • UE has never won at Vanderbilt (0-2) or against the Commodores (0-4).
 
THE OPPONENT
Vanderbilt began the season with losses in back to back matches before then stringing together wins in three of their next four opportunities. The Commodores started SEC play last week with a 2-1 win over Mississippi St. Most recently, VU tied High Point 1-1 last Sunday and were defeated 1-0 at #5 Texas A&M on Friday evening.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Boswell tallied a team-high four shots, including two on goal in a 2-0 Evansville loss at Saint Louis on Friday night.
 
THE COACHES
UE is led by eighth year head coach Krista McKendree, a four year standout with the Purple Aces and the only All-American in UE women's soccer history.
 
Vanderbilt's head coach is Darren Ambrose who is in his first season.
 
HISTORY
Vanderbilt leads the all-time series with Evansville 4-0. This is the first meeting since 1997. UE is 0-2 at VU.

LEADING OFF
Boswell leads all Purple Aces with three goals, two assists, eight points, 24 shots and one game winning goal this season. Senior midfielder Allie Arguello and freshman midfielder Molly Lear also have a team-best two assists each. Lear's 11 shots on goal are most among her teammates. Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby has the lowest GAA (0.96) and highest saves percentage (.800) on the Aces this season.
 
WHAT AN HONOR
Boswell was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week (Sept. 15) for her two goal game vs. IUPUI. This is the first Player of the Week honor in her collegiate career.
 
TALE OF TWO HALVES
Evansville is outscoring their opponents 6-5 in the first half but being outpaced 9-3 after halftime.
 
GOOD BEHAVIOR
The Purple Aces have not received a yellow or red card this season.
 
WE'RE NUMBER ONE
The UE women's soccer team was ranked #1 in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference preseason coach's poll. The Aces will look to unseat back to back champion Illinois State for the title this year. Boswell, Busby, and sophomore forward Montana Portenier were named to the preseason All-Conference team. Sophomore midfielder/forward Nicki Baham received honorable mention.
 
NATIONAL HONOR
Busby missed the team's first two games competing for the Guyana National Team in CONCACAF Qualifying. They won 8-0 over St. Kitts and Nevis and then tied Cuba 1-1. Guyana advanced to the next round over Cuba on goal differential. 
 
UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
Evansville will play three teams that completed last season in the RPI Top 100. Those opponents are Illinois State (32), Miami (Ohio) (58), and Vanderbilt (96).
 
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
The annual Multiple Sclerosis match with Homecoming is on Saturday, Sept. 26. There will be an on campus carnival, an athletics yard sale and the first ever fireworks extravaganza in UE Athletics history.
 
HOSTING THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Evansville is hosting the 2015 MVC Women's Soccer Championship this year. The semifinals will take place on Fri., Nov. 6 with the Championship match to take place on Sun., Nov. 8. All matches will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
