UE Women’s Soccer Battles Butler on the Road this Sunday

LIVE STATS | UE GAME NOTES

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
The University of Evansville women's soccer team (1-4-0) completes a weekend roadtrip in the Hoosier State when they play at Butler (3-1-1) on Sunday afternoon. The match will be held at the Butler Bowl and begin at 12:00 p.m. CDT.
 
WHAT TO KNOW
  • UE is looking for their first win at Butler since 1994 (0-2 since)
  • Freshman forward Sara Osinski and sophomore defender Olivia Shafer lead the Purple Aces with two goals each
  • Since returning from Guyana national team compeition, senior goalkeeper Simone Busby is holding a 1.00 goals against average with a .857 saves percentage

THE OPPONENT
The Bulldogs saw their three game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss at Indiana State on Sept 4. Butler began the year with a 1-1 tie at Cleveland State before claiming three shutout victories over Eastern Michigan, Milwaukee, and IUPUI.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Evansville lost 1-0 at Purdue on Sept. 4. Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby recorded six saves in the contest.
 
THE COACHES
UE is led by eighth year head coach Krista McKendree, a four year standout with the Purple Aces and the only All-American in UE women's soccer history.
 
Butler is guided by co-head coaches Tari St. John (10th year) and Rob Alman (fourth season).
 
HISTORY
Butler leads the series with Evansville 4-2-1. The first meeting was in 1993, a 1-1 tie in Evansville. The Bulldogs and Purple Aces then met each season moving forward until 1998, when they did not play again until 2014, a UE 1-0 victory.

LEADING OFF
Freshman forward Sara Osinski and sophomore defender Olivia Shafer lead the Aces with two goals each. Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell and freshman midfielder Molly Lear both have a team-high two assists. Boswell, Osinski and Shafer each have a team-best four points each. Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby has the lowest GAA (1.00) and highest saves percentage (.857) on the Aces this season.
 
WE'RE NUMBER ONE
The UE women's soccer team was ranked #1 in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference preseason coach's poll. The Aces will look to unseat back to back champion Illinois State for the title this year. Junior midfielder Bronwyn Boswell, senior goalkeeper Simone Busby, and sophomore forward Montana Portenier were named to the preseason All-Conference team. Sophomore midfielder/forward Nicki Baham received honorable mention.
 
TALE OF TWO HALVES
Evansville has outscored their opponents 6-2 in the first half this season but are being outpaced 7-0 after halftime this season. Last year, Evansville allowed just 10 total second half goals.
 
NATIONAL HONOR
Senior goalkeeper Simone Busby missed the team's first two games competing for the Guyana National Team in CONCACAF Qualifying. They won 8-0 over St. Kitts and Nevis and then tied Cuba 1-1. Guyana advanced to the next round over Cuba on goal differential. 
 
UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
Evansville will play three teams that completed last season in the RPI Top 100. Those opponents are Illinois State (32), Miami (Ohio) (58), and Vanderbilt (96).
 
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS
The Aces have a Military Appreciation / Wounded Warrior game with Belmont on Fri., Sept. 11. The annual Multiple Sclerosis match with Homecoming is on Sat., Sept. 26. Senior Day festivities are set for Thurs., Oct. 29.
 
HOSTING THE CHAMPIONSHIP
Evansville is hosting the 2015 MVC Women's Soccer Championship this year. The semifinals will take place on Fri., Nov. 6 with the Championship match to take place on Sun., Nov. 8. All matches will be held at Arad McCutchan Stadium in Evansville, Ind.
