Women’s Basketball sets out for Southern Illinois

EVANSVILLE – After picking up their first Missouri Valley Conference win of the season last Sunday, the University of Evansville women's basketball team will be looking to notch back-to-back victories on Saturday as the Purple Aces pay a visit to Carbondale, Ill., to take on Southern Illinois at 2 p.m.

The Aces, who impressed offensively in last Sunday's showdown with Bradley, will be looking to repeat a team performance that saw nine different players score, led by a 23-point outburst from junior leading scorer Sara Dickey. Sasha Robinson also notched double-digit points as she registered a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, and Kenyia Johnson enjoyed a fantastic outing, racking up eight points, five boards and five assists.

Both Dickey and Robinson will be looking to continue their ascent in the UE record books. Dickey, a native of Montezuma, Ind., currently ranks fifth all-time with 1,391 points and enters Saturday 39 points shy of the fourth spot. Meanwhile, Robinson, who is set to play just her eighth game of the season after missing the opening part of the season due to injury, joined the 500 rebound club last week, and she currently sits 45 away from moving into UE's all-time top 10.

The Aces, who are 2-13 overall and 1-3 in conference play, will be hoping to repeat the successes of a season ago in Carbondale. The Salukis (10-6, 3-1 MVC) suffered their first set back of the MVC season a week ago in a 69-68 overtime thriller against Loyola. Last season, both the Aces and the Salukis picked up wins on the other team's home floor. Dickey and Robinson combined for 24 in a 63-58 win in Carbondale, but in SIU's return trip to Evansville, Dickey's 32 points wouldn't prove enough as the Aces fell 62-53.

Tipoff from SIU Arena is slated for 2 p.m.

NOTES: UE is 26-26 all-time versus Southern Illinois … In road contests, the Aces are 11-13 … Former Ace Khristian Hart led UE in scoring in the Carbondale win last season, racking up 19 points … Dickey now stands 39 points shy of No. 4 on UE's all-time scoring list … Barb Dykstra, who graduated in 1986, currently occupies that spot with 1,430 career points.
