Dickey continues climb up scoring list in Indiana State loss

1/31/2016 1:49:00 PM

Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Sara Dickey moved up to third on the all-time scoring list for the University of Evansville women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon, but her 18 points wouldn't be enough to push the team past Indiana State as the Purple Aces fell 59-44 at the Ford Center.

"You have to give a lot of credit to Indiana State," UE head coach Oties Epps said. "They made every shot difficult and contested everything. We still had our opportunities, but we couldn't finish. Overall, we did enough defensively to win, but we have to have some kids step up on offense and I think they're capable of doing it."

Dickey, who now has 1,481 points for her career, surpassed the point total of Rebekah Parker, who starred for the Aces from 2004-08. The Montezuma, Ind., native has registered double-digit points in all but three contests this season, and she brings more than just scoring to the table for the Aces (2-18, 1-8 Missouri Valley), finishing the day with five rebounds, a pair of blocks and a steal.

Six other players joined Dickey in the scoring column, led by Jordan Campbell, who racked up seven points in her first career start for UE.

Meanwhile, ISU (9-11, 5-4 MVC) was led by the three-pronged attack of Joyea Marshall, Cierra Ceazer and Alexis Newbolt, who finished with 14, 13 and 10 points, respectively.

After taking a 13-11 lead into the second quarter, the Aces were held to just five in the period and went into the half trailing 23-18 to the visiting Sycamores. An early flurry in the third saw UE pull close momentarily, but ISU answered emphatically, outscoring the Aces 36-26 over the game's final 20 minutes.

UE will return to action next week with road contests at both Bradley and Loyola next weekend.

NOTES: UE is 15-36 versus Indiana State, including a 9-15 mark in Evansville … Shyla McKibbon-Puelston is the next target on the all-time scoring list for Dickey. McKibbon-Puelston entered the UE Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, and she finished her Aces career in 2002 with 1,626 career points … Sasha Robinson is 17 rebounds away from entering UE's all-time top 10 in the category.
