Aces secure No. 2 seed with draw at Missouri State

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – There was some work left to be done to determine the postseason fate for the University of Evansville women's soccer team on Thursday night, and after battling to a scoreless draw with Missouri State at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium, the Purple Aces have secured the No. 2 overall seed and a first round bye for the Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
 
With the draw, the Aces finish the regular season with a 4-11-2 overall record and a 3-2-1 mark in conference play. The Bears, who missed out on the tournament, ends the season at 5-8-4 with a 1-3-2 conference record.
 
The MVC Championship will take place in Normal, Ill., from Nov. 4-6, with an opening round set to take place on Oct. 30 at campus sites. With the second seed, UE will face either Loyola or Northern Iowa.
 
In Thursday's match, Whitney Biggs came up huge repeatedly for the Aces, saving seven of the 15 shots she faced in goal for her fourth shutout of the season. She recorded three of those saves as the Bears were pushing forward in the second overtime period.
 
The Aces fired 13 shots in the match, with Bronwyn Boswell leading the pack with four, including a pair on target.
 
NOTES: Bronwyn Boswell is two goals away from moving into a tie for seventh on UE's all-time scoring list … The Aces are 14-7-6 all-time against Missouri State … Last season, the Aces earned a 1-0 decision over the Bears at Arad McCutchan Stadium, with former Ace Allie Arguello slotting home a 22nd-minute penalty for the match's lone goal … Prior to that, the two sides settled for four consecutive draws, including 1-1 affair in the 2013 conference tournament that saw the Aces advance 6-5 on penalties … UE is riding a seven-match unbeaten run against the Bears overall … The Aces are 4-0-2 all-time on Oct 27.
