Late Loyola goal downs UE in Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. – With the University of Evansville women's soccer team mounting pressure on the Loyola goal, the Ramblers took advantage of a late opportunity on the opposite side of the field on Saturday night as a 78th-minute Sienna Cruz volley handed the Aces their first Missouri Valley Conference loss of the season in 1-0 fashion at Loyola Soccer Park.

The Aces (3-10-1, 2-1-0 MVC) enjoyed the bulk of the possession in the contest, outshooting the hosts 19-7. However, Loyola goalkeeper Maddie Ford was largely up to the task of quieting the Aces attack, recording seven saves.

UE also held a 12-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Loyola (4-7-2, 2-0-0 MVC), on the other hand, capitalized on its comparatively fewer chances, as Cruz's match-winner was the only shot the Ramblers put on target on the night.

The loss ended a two-match winning streak for the Aces, who dropped off the top of the MVC standings. The Aces' push for conference glory will continue down the stretch as two of the team's final three matches will take place at Arad McCutchan Stadium, beginning with Indiana State on Oct. 19.

NOTES: Bronwyn Boswell is one goal away from moving into a tie for eighth on UE's all-time scoring list … The Aces are 1-4-3 all-time against Loyola, and the series dates back to a 4-0 UE win in 1993, when both schools were a part of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference … Both matches in 2015 took place in Evansville and ended in a scoreless draw … UE fell 1-0 to the Ramblers on their last trip to Chicago in 2014 … The Aces are 25-28-9 all-time against schools that hail from the state of Illinois … UE is 1-4-1 all-time on Oct. 8.
