Aces set out for final road swing of the regular season

2/25/2016 6:12:00 PM

EVANSVILLE – The University of Evansville women's basketball team will be aiming to get a little bit of momentum heading into the final four games of the regular season this weekend as the Purple Aces will set out for Indiana State and Illinois State before wrapping things up with Northern Iowa and Drake at the Ford Center next week.

Evansville at Illinois State -- Sunday, 2 p.m.:  Live Stats  |  Live Audio  |  The Valley on ESPN3

The Aces (2-23, 1-13 Missouri Valley) will be hoping to pick up their first road victories since a 72-63 decision at Cleveland State in November, and if they are to end that skid, it's likely that Sara Dickey will play a large role in it. Dickey, a junior, is third on UE's all-time scoring list and she enters the weekend averaging just below 16 points per game, which is good enough for fourth in the MVC this season. However, she is coming off back-to-back games where she was held to single-digit scoring, which marked only the fourth and fifth times this season she has been held to less than 10 points.

For much of the year, the Aces have been looking to find a consistent No. 2 scorer, and in recent weeks, it looks like Camille Coleman has earned that role. The Valley's Newcomer of the Week two weeks ago, the freshman out of South Bend has averaged 12.4 points per game in the month of February, which is the top mark on the team.

Meanwhile, both Indiana State and Illinois State will be entering the weekend looking for positioning for next month's MVC tournament. At 8-6 in the league and 12-13 overall, the Sycamores are just a half-game out of fifth and two games from the No. 3 seed, and with a 4-10 conference mark, the Redbirds hold just a half-game advantage on both Bradley and Wichita at No. 8.

Tipoff between Indiana State and Evansville is slated for 6 p.m. Central from the Hulman Center, and Sunday's contest will begin at 2 p.m.

NOTES: UE is 15-36 all-time against Indiana State and 17-28 vs. Illinois State … In road contests, the Aces are 6-20 and 9-12, respectively … UE has won in two of its last three visits to Terre Haute and each of the last three trips to Normal … Dickey has 1,540 career points, the third-best mark in school history … Shyla McKibbon-Puelston is the next target on the all-time scoring list for Dickey. McKibbon-Puelston entered the UE Athletics Hall of Fame last month, and she finished her Aces career in 2002 with 1,626 career points … Sasha Robinson is five rebounds away from moving up to ninth all-time in the Aces history books.
