EVANSVILLE – The University of Evansville men's soccer team will kick off its 2016 spring slate with a bang on Wednesday as the Purple Aces will begin with a 5 p.m. showdown against the Saint Louis FC reserve side before Arad McCutchan Stadium plays host to the first professional outdoor soccer match in the city's history.
The senior team from Saint Louis FC will participate in Wednesday's second game as they are set to take on Indy Eleven at 7:30 p.m. Both clubs, which rank among the attendance leaders in their respective leagues, are nearing the start of their regular season, and the match serves as one of their final preseason tune-ups.
"I am thankful Indy Eleven and Saint Louis FC have allowed us to host their match," UE men's soccer coach Marshall Ray said. "Wednesday evening is going to be a great opportunity for the Evansville Soccer community to see a professional soccer match in Evansville. I look forward to seeing everyone at the match."
On Tuesday, Indy Eleven will host an open training session at Arad McCutchan Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
Following the match, the Aces will continue their spring season on Saturday with a match against Bellarmine. The season will continue on April 2 with matches against Louisville and Lipscomb on April 2, and over the ensuing two weeks, UE will make a trip to Cincinnati before wrapping up on April 14 versus Southern Indiana.
"The spring season is always a productive part of our calendar," Ray explained. "It allows us time to focus on the individual player and their personal development. Our matches against STL FC's reserves, Louisville, Cincinnati, Bellarmine, Lipscomb and USI will give us a good chance to look at a lot of different guys in different match situations."
