EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Freshman Morgan Florey threw another gem, going the distance while giving up just one earned run, but Chelsea Ross matched her as UNI clinched the conference series with a 2-1 win over the University of Evansville softball team.

Florey struck out eight batters for the Aces (12-16, 1-5 MVC) while Ross helped the Panthers (24-9, 4-2 MVC) to the win as she went seven innings giving up just three hits while striking out 12.

Danielle Freeman paced the UE offense with a home run in the top of the first inning. Courtney Land and Morgan Lambert also recorded hits for the Aces.

Evansville picked up an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Danielle Freeman belted a home run to left field. UNI came back with two runs in the top of the second including an Alyssa Buchanan RBI single to right.

Both pitchers were able to settle in after the first two frames as the final 5 ½ innings were scoreless. Both got into a strong groove while keeping the opposing offense off the board.

UT Martin is the next opponent for the Purple Aces. A single game between the Skyhawks and Aces is set for Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Cooper Stadium. The Aces will play their first MVC road series next weekend, heading to Bradley for three games on Saturday and Sunday.
