Ypsilanti, Michigan – The University of Evansville men's swimming closed the 2015-2016 season tonight with the conclusion of the Mid-American Conference Championships.
"It was a remarkable journey," said Head Coach Rickey Perkins, signing off on the season. "I am very proud of them and how they fought this weekend and all season long. We achieved our three goals for the season and for the meet and they were to have fun, be a team, and compete with our hearts."
Kicking off the night was the honoring of the seniors in the Mid-American Conference. Representing Evansville were Troy Burger, Reid Mobley, Ethan O'Rourke, Skyler Shinn, and Cameron Wickes, all four-year participants in the program.
Tonight in the finals session, Burger placed 16
th in the 200 Breastroke. His preliminary seed was 2:06.71; his final time clocked in at 2:04.59.
In the 1650 Freestyle, Freshman Jared Sutphin led the Aces in 17
th place with a time of 16:30.51. He was closely followed by 18
th place Junior Andrew Cotton with 16:32.49. Freshman David Stoddard finished the mile for the Aces in 22
nd with 17:08.86.
The 400 Freestyle Relay team of Sophomore Dan O'Brien, O'Rourke, Freshman Matt Duke, and Sophomore Everett Plocek came up short against Ball State to touch in at 3:05.10 for 7
th place.
Freshman diver Cory Barnes competed in the 3-Meter B-Final yesterday. With tonight's A-Final, he was placed in 16
th with his score of 255.40.
This morning's efforts were not an exception from the rest of the weekend as they resulted in even more improvements in personal achievement. All but two swims resulted in a season or lifetime best.
The final standings were: Eastern Michigan with 846 points, Buffalo with 649, Missouri State with 634, Southern
Illinois University with 528, Miami (Ohio) with 449, Ball State with 147, and Evansville with 142.
