EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Fresh off of an exciting walk-off 6-5 win over UT Marin on Tuesday, the University of Evansville softball team will play its first Missouri Valley Conference road series of the season, traveling to Bradley for a 3-game set this weekend.
The Purple Aces and Braves face off in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon with Sunday's finale beginning at the same time.
Evansville stands at 13-16 overall and 1-5 in MVC play, but the record is not at all indicative of the team's play. Of its five league losses, four have come by a total of just five runs. Last weekend against UNI, Morgan Florey led the squad to its first conference win, going the distance against UNI.
On Tuesday, the freshman struck again as she recorded the first home run of her career, a 2-run shot, which gave UE the lead. Florey also earned her seventh win of the season against the Skyhawks, but it did not come easy. Up 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Florey gave up the go-ahead run that saw UTM retake the lead.
Chandra Parr was the hero in the bottom of the frame. Courtney Land led the inning off with a hit to bring the winning run to the plate. Parr capped the day off in exciting fashion, blasting a home run to left-center to give the Aces a 6-5 win and give the team momentum heading into the weekend.
Bradley enters the weekend with a 9-17 mark, but have excelled in league play, going 4-2 in their opening two series. Kelly Kapp is their leading hitter, checking in at .435. She has scored a team-high 20 runs and is 16-of-19 in stolen base attempts. Alyson Clemente provides the power in the lineup as her 25 home runs and .613 slugging percentage pace the Braves.
