Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer falls 2-0 to Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE – A goal on each side of the half proved the difference on Sunday as the University of Evansville women's soccer team fell 2-0 to host Austin Peay on a sweltering afternoon at Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

"We didn't have the right mentality," UE head coach Krista McKendree said. "You can't blame the conditions or the heat because both teams played in it. Our mentality wasn't good today, and that's why weren't able to get in a position to win this game."

After taking control of games in the early goings in each of the first three matches of the year, UE (1-3-0) found themselves on the back foot early, with only a pair of goal line clearances from freshman defender Samantha Brown keeping the contest level after 12 minutes. It wouldn't stay that way for long though, as Gina Fabbro uncorked a shot from distance in the 27th to give the Governors (3-0-0) the lead.

"When we've started with vigor, we've been in the game," McKendree said. "When we have come out like that, we take control of the match, and we might have lost it at some point, but we've always been able to get it back too. Today, we were never really in control. We had some chances but nothing like what we should be able to create with the players that we have."

APSU, which had 10 shots in the opening half, kept it up in the early part of the second as Kristin Robertson doubled the advantage nine minutes after the break.

For the game, the Aces were out-shot 13-5, steering two on target.

UE will return to action next weekend with a trip to Morehead State on Friday before returning home to take on Southeast Missouri on Sunday.

NOTES: The Aces are now 5-1 all-time against Austin Peay … The two sides first met in 2005 in Clarksville, and UE came away with a 3-0 win in the last meeting, which took place on Aug. 22, 2014.
