CARBONDALE, Ill. – The men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2017 MAC Championship tonight with a pair of relays and a handful of season best times.
"Great start to the meet. We swam really well and had fast times," said head coach Rickey Perkins. "Both relays tonight were season best times and I am excited for tomorrow morning to see what we are able to do."
Junior Dan O'Brien, senior Everett Plocek, junior Prescott Marcy, and senior Matt Childress started the evening with the 200 Medley Relay. Their final time of 1:35.28 was a season best and good for 7
th place.
The Aces continued dropping time in the 800 Freestyle relay. Freshman Brandt Hudson, sophomores Blake Wheeler and Jared Sutphin, and freshman Zack Sagan clocked in a 6:46.70 for 6
th place, 8 seconds faster than 7
th place Ball State and a 9 second improvement from the 2016 Evansville relay performance.
In addition to the relays, official time trials were held tonight. Freshman Isaac Devaney trialed the 200 freestyle, clocking in a 1:49.47, a two second improvement on his previous season best time. Sophomore David Stoddard swam the 100 butterfly for a season best 55.45. Senior Andrew Cotton got a best time of his own in the 100 freestyle with a 49.49, and junior Brendan Ninneman rounded out the group with a season best 54.43 in the 100 backstroke.
The Aces return to Shea Natatorium tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CST with the 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, 50 freestyle, and 1-Meter diving.
