WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The swimming and diving squads were back on the road this afternoon to compete at the annual Indiana Intercollegiate hosted by Purdue University.
The men took second place with 311.5 points, while the women placed third with 348.
"I asked the team to compete and start setting the tone for the type of mentality we want to carry through the season," said Brent Noble following his first competition as Evansville's head coach. "They really did deliver on that. We were competitors today, and solid results followed that attitude. It's been a fun two weeks so far, and I really look forward to more hard work with this group and really exciting results."
Junior Brandt Hudson led the way for the men with a 3
rd place finish in the 200 freestyle, clocking in a 1:43.74. Hudson also took 5
th in the 100 backstroke with a 53.28. He followed sophomore Credence Pattinson's 4
th place finishing 53.08.
Junior Paul Cozzens recorded a 1:57.85 in the 200 IM for another 3
rd place finish for the Aces. Ee Tan followed suit in 6
th with a 2:00.51. Tan earned his own success in the 500 freestyle with a 2
nd place finishing 4:45.33. Freshman David Killian took 3
rd with 4:51.35, and sophomore Pete Lingo clocked 4:51.80 for a fast 4
th.
Senior Kristen Myers was the top scorer for the women, her best finish a 4
th place in the 100 butterfly with a final time of 57.95. Myers also tied for 7
th in the 50 freestyle with a 24.53.
Sophomore Andrea Ramis clocked a 2:14.97 in the 200 IM for 6
th place. Freshman Emily Vasquez took a pair of 7
th place finishes in the 200 and 100 freestyles. She recorded 1:58.21 and 54.22 respectively. Senior Sam Gowdy also took a 7
th place finish in the 100 backstroke with a final time of 59.45.
On the diving side, senior Miguel Marcano took a pair of 4
th place finishes for the men, with 248.20 on 3-Meter and 224.15. Freshman Maggie Franz took 6
th on 3-Meter with 195.85 points to lead the women, while sophomore Natalie Gerard took 6
th on 1-Meter with 207.10 points.
The women are back in action on October 27
th at Arkansas Little Rock, while both squads return November 3
rd to compete against Indiana State and Valparaiso in Terre Haute.
