Aces' unbeaten streak snapped at Loyola

10/21/2018 12:22:00 AM

Box Score CHICAGO, Ill. - Heading into the match with three-straight results, the Unviersity of Evansville men's soccer team saw its unbeaten streak ended in a 3-0 loss to Loyola on Saturday night in Chicago, Ill..

"Credit to Loyola tonight, they took us out of our rhythm and didn't allow us to play," said Aces' men's soccer head coach Marshall Ray. "We struggled a little bit, playing on the road. The environment and intensity of the match rattled us. We've got to regroup and get prepared for a tough battle at Kentucky and then try and get a result on homecoming against Valpo to put us position to still compete in our conference."

The Ramblers applied pressure early in the match as Loyola tallied three shots in the first ten minutes of the opening half, but none of them came on-frame. Evansville recorded its first chance in the 15th minute as senior Trevor Baum's shot was blocked. Just past the midway point of the first half, Loyola opened the scoring with a goal by Aiden Megally off an assist by Tyler Biggs as Megally's shot from inside the box deflected off the post and in. Following the goal, the Aces and Ramblers combined for just one shot in the half with Loyola putting a shot on-goal that junior Frederik Reimer saved for Evansville.

The Aces found themselves down a man in the 56th minute, which was capitalized on by Loyola in the 71st minute as the hosts found their second goal of the match as Fabian Becerra scored off two Ramblers' assists. With five minutes left in the match, Megally got on the scoreboard for the second time on the night as he scored off an assist from Ryan Walker in the Ramblers' 3-0 win.

Waever, Baum, and Weber each recorded one shot to lead Evansville in the loss. In goal, Reimer made three saves while allowing three goals.

The Aces are back on the road on Wednesday when they travel to face No. 3 Kentucky in Lexington, Ky. for a 6:00 p.m. showdown with the Wildcats.
