Lowry leads Aces at MVC Championships

PEORIA, Ill. - In their first race of the postseason, the University of Evansville men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Championships at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill..

Evansville's women earned a ninth-place finish at the championships with a total of 232 points,a 36-point margin over Valparaiso. On the men's side, the Aces finished ninth with 284 points.

Leading the way for Evansville, sophomore Anna Lowry put together a strong performance, finishing in 15th and setting a new pr in the process, crossing the line in a time of 17:55. For her performance, Lowry was named all-Missouri Valley Conference honorable mention.

Following Lowry in 44th was senior Sienna Crews, who turned in a time of 18:50 in the championship. A trio of Aces finished together in in 61st, 62nd, and 63rd, as senior Ashton Bosler (19:41.0), junior Hannah Welsh (19:42.0), and freshman Haylee Harmeyer (19:44.5) all finished one-after-another within less than four seconds of one-another.

Just behind the trio was freshman Katelyn Singh who earned a 67th-place finish in a time of 20:26.9. Two positions back of Singh, sophomore Izzy Dawson crossed the finish line in 65th place, recording a time of 20:56.9.

For Evansville's men's team, junior Stanley Chepchieng paced the Aces for the sixth time this season. Chepchieng finished in 58th with a time of 27:01.2, the second-best 8k time in his collegiate career. Four seconds off Chepchieng's pace, junior Ricky Hendrix finished in a time of 27:05.3, bettering his PR by six seconds.

Three Aces grouped together were the next to finish for Evansville as sophomore Kalen Ochs (27:16.9), senior Jordan Carpenter (27:24.4), and sophomore Dawson Hood (27:38.2) finished in 63rd, 64th, and 65th, respectively.

Evansville next competes at the NCAA Great Lakes District Regional on November 9, held in Terre Haute, Ind..
