EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A 1991 graduate, University of Evansville men's soccer alumnus Paul Nevin will join manager Gareth Southgate's English national team staff for the month of November.
Currently serving as first team coach for Brighton & Hove Albion, a side in the English Premier League, Nevin received an invite to join the national team staff for a pair of matches in November against the USA and 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia. Nevin's current position with Brighton & Hove Albion will continue during the stint with the senior national team.
While at UE, Nevin was a member of the Purple Aces' 1990 NCAA Final Four team, scoring 11 goals and recording 22 assists during his career and earning first-team all-region honors in 1988. Following his collegiate career, Nevin spent time playing professionally for Carlisle United and Yeovil Town.
Nevin got his start in coaching with English club team Fulham in 1997. During his coaching career, Nevin has spent time as head coach of the New Zealand Knights (Hyundai A-League), Aspire Academy in Qatar, Norwich City (English Championship), and serving as Premier League head of coaching.
The appointment of Nevin to the English National Team staff comes as part of an initiative by the Football Association to rectify the lack of BAME (Black, Asian, and minority ethnic) coaches across English football.
