EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Looking to build on back-to-back strong showings, the University of Evansville men's and women's cross country teams make the short trip to Owensboro, Ky. to compete in the Fast Cats Classic on Saturday morning.
The competition begins on Saturday with the men's 8k race at 9:30 a.m. followed by the women's 5k race at 10:10 a.m. at Yellow Creek Park. Joining the Aces at the Fast Cats Classic are host Kentucky Wesleyan, Tennessee State, Brescia, University of Cumberlands, Cumberlands University, Asbury, Campbellsville, Cincinnati Christian, Fontbonne, Freed-Hardeman, Georgetown (Ky.), Grace Christian, IU-Kokomo, Lindsey Wilson, Midway, Trevecca Nazarene, Union (Ky.), and Webster.
Evansville's women's team is coming off its second-straight team victory at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival on September 22. Pacing the Aces were sophomore Anna Lowry and senior Sienna Crews who finished first and second overall in the race. On the men's side, junior Stanley Chepchieng earned Missouri Valley Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for his second-place performance at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival. Along with Chepchieng's showing, the Aces set 14 PRs in the four mile race at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival. Through three races on each side, Evansville has earned five top three finishes, including podium finishes in all three competitions for the Aces' men.
This weekend's competition represents the last races for Evansville before the Aces host the UE Invitational on October 13.
