Midweek matchup brings Lipscomb to McCutchan Stadium

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Playing its second of three-straight Tuesday evening non-conference matches at home, the University of Evansville men's soccer team welcomes in Lipscomb for a matchup at 6 p.m. in Evansville.

The Purple Aces are coming off a week that saw them earn a 2-2 draw with Butler before battling and falling to Central Arkansas on the road, 3-2. To open the weekend, Evansville took a 1-0 advantage over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night before Butler responded with a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead. In the 80th minute, freshman Ryan Harris clipped a shot from sophomore Filip Johansson into the back of the net sending the match to overtime in the 2-2 tie. On the road at Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon, the Aces found themselves down a goal after a penalty kick in the 28th minute, but fought back to take a 2-1 advantage less than 10 minutes later. Just before the half, the Bears scored twice as Central Arkansas held on to its 3-2 lead in the Bears' win.

Evansville and Lipscomb are meeting for the 10th time in series history with the Bisons holding a 4-3-2 advantage all-time. After beginning the series 3-0-2, the Aces have lost their last four to Lipscomb, including a 4-2 loss on the road last season on October 18, 2017. The last win for UE over Lipscomb came on October 29, 2013 when Evansville picked-up a 1-0 win over the Bisons on the road. On the season, Lipscomb holds a 3-7 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Atlantic Sun action. The Bisons opened the season with a 2-0 win over Belmont before dropping seven-straight matches, but Lipscomb bounced back, winning its last two matches, including a 3-2 win over No. 24 Florida Gulf Coast. Offensively, the Bisons are led by Ryan Birchfield and Logan Paynter, who each have three goals in 2018. Between the posts, Chris Zappia has spent most of the time in goal for Lipscomb this season, making 29 saves and holding a 1.57 goals-against average.

Tuesday evening's match is High School Soccer Night at Arad McCutchan Stadium. The Aces will be celebrating high school soccer in the Tri-State and high school teams can submit rosters to LD141@Evansville.edu by Monday night to receive complimentary admission to the match.
