Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Earning its second shutout of the season, the University of Evansville captured a 1-0 victory over Lipscomb in a non-conference contest on Tuesday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.
"Obviously it's a midweek game in-between two important conference games and we had a lot of guys play a lot of minutes in a lot of heat on Saturday at Central Arkansas and then on the bus trip home. I thought tonight we had a good team effort and we had a lot of guys on the field," said Aces' men's soccer head coach Marshall Ray. "We started several of our freshmen and they did a great shift in the first 20 minutes. All in all a good team win. We had some breakaways in the second and we were able to kind of get in behind them quite a bit and weren't able to finish the chances. Fortunately, Ben (Weber) put one in and then we were able to play with the lead and limit their chances, so good night overall."
The early portions of the match feature three Lipscomb opportunities, but just one was on-frame, coming on a ninth-minute shot that senior Greg Niven saved. After recording their first shot in the 21st minute, the Purple Aces out-shot the Bisons six to two in the final 25 minutes of the opening half. Junior Simon Waever created the first opportunity for Evansville as he had his shot saved in the 21st minute. Two more chances for Evansville were blocked in the 26th and 28th minutes as freshman Ryan Harris and junior Jesse Stafford-Lacey each had their shot stopped by a Bisons defender. After Waever had his second shot of the half blocked, Evansville earned three corner kicks in the closing eight minutes of the period, but could not capitalize on them as the match moved to the break in a scoreless tie.

After Weber had another shot blocked, he would have another chance just minutes later. After freshman Davis Peck played a ball through the Bisons' backline, Weber located the ball and finished past the keeper to give UE the 1-0 advantage in the 64th minute. Over the final 10 minutes of the match, Lipscomb pushed the game-tying goal as the Bisons' recorded three shots, with two coming on-goal, but Aces' keeper Matt Bryant saved both as Evansville earned the 1-0 win.
