Box Score EVANSVILLE, Ind. - In a match that featured seven total goals, the University of Evansville men's soccer team dropped its quarterfinal match in the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference Championship, 5-2, against Missouri State on Wednesday evening at Arad McCutchan Stadium.

Evansville wasted little time being aggressive early in the match as the Purple Aces scored 1:03 into the first half. Junior Simon Waever ran down the right side and played a ball into the box that was deflected off of junior Ben Weber and fell to the feet of redshirt junior Hunter DeWeese who slipped it past the keeper to give Evansville the 1-0 lead. Evansville added to its lead with a goal in the 24th minute as freshman Ryan Harris dribbled past defenders and sent a shot on-goal from the top of the 18-yard box. The ball was tipped off the Bears' goalkeepers fingertips and off the cross bar and in, giving UE a two-goal lead midway through the first half. In the 35th and 36th minutes, Missouri State struck back quickly, tying the match with a pair of goals with less than a minute between the two. Heading into the half, Missouri State scored its third of the first half with Harry Lewis finding the back of the net off assists from Jake Buckle and Dan Edwards as the Bears went to the half with a one-goal advantage.

The early portions of the second half included two opportunities for the Aces to tie the match with Waever recording two shots, both missing wide in the first 15 minutes of action of the second half. Missouri State pushed its advantage to two goals in the 60th minute on a goal by Conor Ingram, who curled it in from the top of the box after Josh Dolling slid the ball to Ingram. Evansville stayed active following the Bears' goal as Weber and fellow junior Jesse Stafford-Lacey each tallied shots in the 65th and 68th minutes, respectively. In the 71st minute, the Aces committed a foul inside the box, sending Dolling to the spot for a penalty kick that Dolling converted as the Bears earned a 5-2 win in the MVC Championship quarterfinal match.

DeWeese and Harris each scored for Evansville while Waever generated five shots, including one on-goal, while assisting on DeWeese's match-opening goal. Between the posts, junior goalkeeper Frederik Reimer played in goal for the Aces, seeing all 90 minutes of action in the 5-2 loss.

Evansville's season comes to a close with a 4-8-7 overall record and a 2-2-2 mark in MVC action.
