EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Continuing to showcase its success in the classroom, University of Evansville men's soccer student-athletes reeled in numerous academic honors during the fall season.

Juniors Jesse Stafford-Lacey and Simon Waever received academic recognition for their efforts in the classroom for the Purple Aces' men's soccer team.

After being named Google Cloud academic all-district in November, Waever was honored as second-team Google Cloud academic all-America earlier this month. Waever was one of six selections from the Missouri Valley Conference among the three academic all-America teams, tied with the ACC for most honorees from a single conference. The second all-America honor of the season for Waever, United Soccer Coaches named the junior as academic all-America making Waever one of two MVC honorees the organization selected. The Holte, Denmark native recorded a team-best seven assists on the season, while excelling in the classroom where he holds a 4.00 GPA in management.

Being named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team, Stafford-Lacey added his second academic honor of the season with a scholar all-region team nod from United Soccer Coaches. Stafford-Lacey was also named MVC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Sept. 5th, 2018, while receiving the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award earlier this year and being named to the MVC Honor Roll twice in his career. A native of Kerry, Ireland, Stafford-Lacey holds a 3.79 GPA in sport communication.

To be eligible for selection for the United Soccer Coaches scholar teams, the student athlete must be nominated by his or her Head Coach and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career, start more than 50 percent of all games, and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., all-conference) or contributions to the success of his/her team.

For consideration for Google Cloud all-district and all-America honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form.
