Softball welcomes UNI this weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – League play continues for the University of Evansville softball team as they will take on UNI this weekend at Cooper Stadium.  The weekend begins on Saturday with a single game at 4 p.m. before concluding the weekend with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
 
Last weekend, the Purple Aces opened up MVC play at home against Drake.  The Bulldogs pitching staff finished the weekend with an ERA of 0.67 on their way to the series sweep.  Eryn Gould batted .556 in the series, recording a hit in 5 of her 9 at-bats.  Lindsay Renneisen batted .375 while Elyse Hickey finished at .333.  Morgan Florey pitched a pair of complete games, posting an ERA of 2.50.

Weekend Notes
Gould paced the UE squad with a .556 batting average in the first MVC series of the season.  Gould registered five hits in nine at-bats while slugging .667 and getting on base 60% of the time.  She also scored a run.  After going 0-2 to open the series against the Bulldogs, Gould went 3-4 with a double and run scored in game two before notching another 2-3 performance in Sunday's finale.
 
Florey continued to pitch at an elite level over the weekend, posting a 2.50 ERA while striking out 18 batters in 14 innings of work.  In game one against Drake, Florey went the distance, giving up three runs, two earned, on three hits.  She fanned eight batters.  Sunday's finale saw her toss another complete game as she allowed three runs on four hits while striking out 10 more batters.
 
UE's freshmen were not phased as they began the league slate over the weekend.  Evansville's top three hitters were all freshmen as Eryn Gould, Lindsay Renneisen and Elyse Hickey batted .556, .375 and .333, respectively, in the series against Drake.  The trio had 10 of the teams 16 hits on the weekend and accounted for all three runs.
 
UNI enters the weekend with a 16-10 mark and stand at 1-1 in the league.  Brittney Roby leads the MVC with a .466 batting average.  That puts her 24th in the country.  She has notched 41 hits in 88 at-bats.  Sammey Bunch checks in at .352.  In the circle, Brooke Craig is 8-3 with a 3.56 ERA.
