EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After leading the Purple Aces past No. 24 Grand Canyon on Friday night, junior forward Ben Weber of the University of Evansville men's soccer team was named Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced in a release by the conference office on Tuesday.
In Evansville's 1-0 overtime victory over the nationally-ranked Lopes, Weber recorded four shots, putting all four on-goal, and scored the game-winning goal in the 99th minute. Along with his game-winning goal, Weber tallied four shots with all four shots coming on-goal.
The goal was Weber's second career game-winner and fifth career goal, helping the junior earn his first MVC Player of the Week honor. Weber becomes the first Ace this season to receive the honor since Ian McGrath and Matt Keller swept the weekly honors on August 28, 2017.
The Aces are back in competition Tuesday evening on the road at Northern Kentucky for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Norse in Highland Heights, Ky..
