9/22/2018 1:18:00 AM

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After a week away from competition, the University of Evansville men's and women's cross country teams return to action at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival in Clarksville, Tenn. on Saturday morning.

"Anything can happen tomorrow (Saturday). This is going to be totally different," said Aces' men's and women's cross country head coach Don Walters. "It's going to be wet. The creeks will probably be one to two feet of water, if it's that low. It's going to be very, very interesting."

The men's 4 mile race begins the day's festivities at 9 a.m., followed by the women's 5k race at 9:45 a.m.. Joining Evansville in Clarksville are host Austin Peay, Alabama A&M,and Tennessee State, among the four-team NCAA Division One field. Saturday's action will take place at Hilldale Family Life Center in Clarksville, Tenn..

"I think it will be a really fun race," said sophomore Anna Lowry, who is coming off setting her second PR in two weeks. "Not sure if it (the course conditions) will be PR quality, so we just have to go out and execute a game plan again."

The Purple Aces are looking to continue their strong running from two weeks ago that saw Evansville's women's team capture the team title at the UAH Chargers Open. In the race, sophomore Anna Lowry set a new PR of 18:36.09 on the 5k course, earning her a second-place finish and Missouri Valley Conference Female Runner of the Week honors. The Aces' men earned a fourth-place team finish at the open, led by junior Stanley Chepchieng who completed the course in a PR of 27:32.12, finishing in 14th in the 8k race.

Evansville has seen success before at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival. In 2016, then sophomore Sienna Crews and freshman Hannah Welsh helped power the Aces' women's team to a third-place finish out of nine teams by finishing first and second in the women's 5k. A season ago, UE's finished in second in the women's race at the Austin Peay Cross Country Festival, while the Aces' men picked up a third-place finish in two races run at Liberty Park in Clarksville after rain moved the event from Hilldale Family Life Center.
