HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Competing in their second match of the season, the University of Evansville men's and women's cross country teams put in strong performances, led by the Aces' women's team victory at the UAH Chargers Open in Huntsville, Ala..
Evansville's women's team finished first among the seven-team field, earning 35 points, besting second-place Alabama-Huntsville by three points. On the men's side, the Aces finished fourth as a team, finishing two points behind third-place finisher Austin Peay.
For the second-straight match, sophomore Anna Lowry led the way for Evansville with a second-place finish in a new PR time of 18:36.09. Lowry's PR was a five-second improvement over her previous PR set last week at the Walt Crawford Open. Lowry was one of three Purple Aces to garner a top four finish as senior Sienna Crews crossed the finish line in third in a time of 19:31.74, while junior Hannah Welsh earned a fourth-place finish in a time of 19:44.03.
Finishing just outside of the top 10 was freshman Katelyn Singh, who grabbed an 11th-place finish in 20:15.68, a nearly 15-second improvement on her PR time from a week ago. Also improving on her time from last week was freshman Haylee Harmeyer who completed the 5k course in a time of 20:30.11, finishing in 15th. Fellow freshmen Emma Boebinger (21.50.70) Ah'tahja Hooper (22:48.72) earned 31st and 37th place finishes, respectively.
A group of three Aces finished in a pack in 42nd, 43rd, and 44th as senior Hayley Elliott (23:01.10), freshman Haley Dean (23:05.51), and freshman Claire Dardeen (23:33.11) each finished one after another. Sophomore Kylie Hasenour (31:20.65) and freshman Zaya Lumumba (33.49.91) crossed the finish line in 63rd and 65th, respectively, as Lumumba set a new PR.

Women's 5k
For Evansville's men's team, the Aces were powered by junior Stanley Chepchieng, who captured a top 15 finish in 14th and set a PR with a time of 27:32.12. The Kabarnet, Kenya native's time bested his previous best 8k time by just shy of nine-tenths of a second.
Finishing in second among Aces' runners was sophomore Dawson Hood in 22nd, who crossed the finish line in a time of 28:13.25. Two Aces finished within two seconds of one another as senior Jordan Carpenter (28:35.47) and junior Ricky Hernandez (28:36.77) picked up 27th and 28th place finishes, respectively. Also finishing in close succession for Evansvile were sophomore Kalen Ochs (29:43.81) and freshman Carson Kline (29:50.62) who completed the 8k course in 39th and 40th, respectively.
Sophomores Tyler Frields-Reifsteck (30:09.29) in 46th and Timmy Miller (31:19.82) finishing in 56th and freshmen Kaleb Slagle (32:24.53) in 62nd, Jack Rauch (33:24.19) in 66th, and Kyle Thieme (36:07.40) finishing in 71st all aided Evansville's effort in earning a fourth-place finish as a team.
The Aces are back in competition September 22 when Evansville travels to Clarksville, Tenn. to participate in the Austin Peay Invitational.
