EVANSVILLE, Ind. - For the fourth-straight season, the University of Evansville will play host to a pair of professional soccer powers when USL Championship sides Nashville SC and Indy Eleven come to Arad McCutchan Stadium at 2:00 p.m. on March 2.
The preseason friendly will be the final preseason tuneup for both sides as Indy Eleven returns to the pitch at McCutchan Stadium for the third time and Nashville SC makes its debut in Evansville.
"Preseason exhibitions are all about providing stiff tests for our players, and the opportunity to play a strong side like Indy is an ideal test prior to the start of the regular season," said Nashville SC general manager Mike Jacobs.
A season ago, Saint Louis FC and eventual USL Champions Louisville City concluded their preseason at Arad McCutchan Stadium in front of two enthusiastic fan bases.
Last season, Indy Eleven and Nashville SC each advanced to the first round of the USL Playoffs with Indy Eleven falling to eventual league champion Louisville City and Nashville SC battling FC Cincinnati to a 1-1 draw with FC Cincinnati advancing on penalty kicks, 6-5.
As part of the festivities, a question and answer session featuring former Aces' men's soccer head coach and Nashville SC GM Mike Jacobs, former Aces' men's soccer student-athlete and Nashville SC assistant GM Ally Mackay, and a potential member from the Indy Eleven organization will be held at Doc's Sports Bar at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1 in a family-friendly event.
"Evansville soccer fans are always enthusiastic, and the Q&A is a great way to engage them while sharing some insight into what's on the horizon for Nashville Soccer Club in 2019 and beyond," said Jacobs.
Mackay recently joined Nashville SC after spending the last five years as a player agent for one of the largest sports agencies in the world, Stellar Group, which is based in London. As an Ace, Mackay spent three seasons as a defender with Evansville from 2008 to 2010, helping the Aces to 28 wins during his collegiate career.
"The opportunity to come full circle and come back to Evansville, my first home in the US, is one I am very excited about," said Nashville SC assistant GM Ally Mackay. "Having worked in the MLS, Nashville is as unique an expansion team as I can remember and to do that on the campus that I used to attend is almost surreal. The support and people in Evansville have always been very dear to me personally, so being able to engage and hopefully catch up with a few familiar faces is something I am very much looking forward to."
Indy Eleven and Nashville SC both boast to of the best fan bases in all of the USL with both sides drawing over 9,500 fans per game, placing both in the top four in the league in attendance.
Tickets for the preseason friendly are $5 and will be available for purchase at the gate on match day.
