Aces Indoor track teams set for big weekend in Carbondale

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Evansville men's and women's indoor track teams will look to follow up their individual success in Fort Wayne, as they travel to Carbondale, Illinois to compete in the Don Denoon Invitational at Southern Illinois University. The host Salukis, along with Ole Miss, Western Illinois, Arkansas State, and UT Martin highlight the eleven team field.

MEET SCHEDULE

On the men's side, Stanley Chepchieng will look to continue his early season success in the triple jump, an event he's won in each of the first two meets of the season. The junior speedster was also part of the 4 X 400 meter relay team, along with sophomore Ian Alberts, graduate athlete Everett Plocek and freshman Peter Blok that took home top honors at the Mastodon Invitational with a time of 3:35.52. Ian Alberts set a new Aces program mark in earning the top prize in the pole vault with a successful attempt of 4.41 meters. Freshman Alan Kerstiens leaped to the crown in the long jump, with a leap of 6.29 meters, with teammate Nick Ryan finishing just behind him in second. Brendon Smith will also look to improve on a school mark, which he set in the 200 meter with a time of 24.11.
 

On the women's side, freshman Erin Nixon will look to improve on her school record-setting performance in the high jump record, when she leaped to an event-winning height of 1.52 meters in Fort Wayne. Another newcomer, McKenna Sapp will also look to follow up a new school mark, which see set in taking the women's pole vault crown, with an attempt 3.34 meters, at the Matadon Invitational, as well.

Sophomore sprinter Monica Watkins, sophomore distance runner Anna Lowry, sophomore thrower Brittany Corley and freshman long jumper Taiza Alexander will all look to build on school records which were set two weeks in Fort Wayne, as well. 

The events begin on Friday morning at 10 am at Southern Illinois University with the women's pentathalon, and will continue Saturday morning at 10 am.
