Aces head to Missouri State to close MVC opening weekend

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Looking to bounce back after a conference-opening loss at SIU, the University of Evansville women's basketball team travels to Springfield, Mo. to face Missouri State at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Last Game: Southern Illinois 67, Evansville 47 (Carbondale, Ill.., Jan. 4)
  •  The Aces fell in their Missouri Valley Conference opener on Friday, 67-47, at Southern Illinois.
  • For the third-straight game, senior Marley Miller led Evansville, scoring 16 points on 7-16 shooting from the field.
  • The 16-point performance also marked the third-straight double-figure outing for Miller who had 18 points against Austin Peay on Dec. 18 and set a career-high with 21 points at Wisconsin on Dec. 21.
  • Senior Kerri Gasper moved closer to a career milestone with 10 points against the Salukis on Friday evening. Gasper now sits just 52 points away from becoming just the 20th player in program history to reach 1,000 points in their career.
  • Against SIU, Evansville shot the ball well from the field over the first three quarters, going 17-36 (47.2%) from the field in the first 30 minutes. The offense hit a rough patch in the final quarter, shooting 0-10 from the field in the closing 10 minutes.
  • Forcing 14 turnovers, UE made 10 steals on the evening, the second-highest total on the season.

Next Opponent: at Missouri State

  •  Evansville and Missouri State are meeting for the 54th time in series history. 
  • In the last meeting between the two sides, the Bears earned a 97-51 win over the Aces at JQH Arena on March 1, 2018.
  • Evansville is looking for its first win in the series with Missouri State since a thrilling 65-59 win in the quarterfinals of the 2017 MVC Tournament on March 10, 2017.
  • The last time the Aces captured a win in Springfield was Jan. 2, 2015 when Evansville defeated the Bears, 65-56.

Miller's Emergence

  • After starting the season scoring just six points in the first four games, senior Marley Miller has emerged as one of the top scorers on the team.
  • Over the last eight games, Miller is averaging 14.3 points per contest with six double-digit scoring performances.
  • Miller has twice set a new career-high in scoring this season, putting up 20 points against Marshall on Nov. 29 and setting a new career mark against Wisconsin with 21 points on Dec. 21.
  • Efficient shooting from anywhere on the floor has aided Miller this season, as Miller is shooting 47.8% from the field and 41.3% from three-point range. The senior has also hit her free throws at a high percentage, making six of her seven attempts (85.7%) on the year.
