CHICAGO – In the first of three matches in four days, the University of Evansville volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match at Loyola on Friday evening at Gentile Arena.

Alondra Vazquez was the top performer for the Purple Aces (14-8, 5-6 MVC), tallying 10 kills. Melanie Feliciano finished with five. Allana McInnis totaled 17 assists while Gabriela Macedo added 11 digs. Addie Barnes led the Ramblers (16-8, 9-2 MVC) with 13 kills.

In the first set, the teams battled to a 5-5 tie before Loyola made its first run of the night, reeling off six in a row to go up by an 11-5 tally. They would extend the advantage to 18-9 before the Aces pushed back. Elena Redmond recorded an ace as UE cut the deficit to 21-17, but the Ramblers were able to regroup and hang on by a 25-18 final.

Melanie Feliciano notched a service ace to help the Aces take a 3-1 lead to start the second frame. The Ramblers came back to tie it at 6-6. Four ties led to a score of 11-11 and that is when LUC made its run, finishing the set on a 14-5 run to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-16 decision.

With the score tied at 4-4 in the third set, Loyola reeled off four in a row and held strong from there, clinching the match with a 25-15 win.Â

Tomorrow, the Aces look to rebound with a 5 p.m. match at Valparaiso.
