Evansville hosts Valparaiso in Senior Day clash on Sunday

EVANSVILLE – In what will be the final match at Arad McCutchan Stadium for five seniors, the University of Evansville men's soccer team welcomes Valparaiso in for a matchup on Senior Day at 2 PM on Sunday.

Last Match: Loyola 1, Evansville 0
  • It was an early goal for the Ramblers that propelled them to victory as Aidan Megally sent a shot on-goal in the fourth minute that was saved by Aces goalkeeper Frederik Reimer and rebounded out to Fabian Becerra who finished it past Reimer.
  • Evansville was not without chances in the first half as redshirt freshman Jakub Hall continued his strong form with two first half shots on-goal.
  • The second half was defensive showcase as both teams combined for just three shots in the final 45 minutes.
  • The first shot of the half came from sophomore Ryan Harris whose shot was blocked. Redshirt sophomore Davis Peck recorded the second shot of the half for the Aces, but Peck's shot was high as Loyola secured the 1-0 win.
  • Shots were even in the match at five each with both teams also tying in shots on-goal with two.
Previewing the Matchup
  • Evansville and Valparaiso are meeting for the ninth time with the series tied, 3-3-2.
  • Evansville will honor seniors Frederik Reimer, Hunter DeWeese, Jesse Stafford-Lacey, Zac Blaydes, and Ben Weber before the match.
  • The last matchup in the series saw the Crusaders earn a 2-1 victory over the Aces on Sept. 22.
  • The Aces drew in their last home matchup with Valparaiso in a thrilling 1-1 double-overtime tie on Oct. 27.
  • The last win for Evansville in the series came in 2008 when the Aces captured a 3-1 victory over Valpo on Sept. 14 in the Aces Soccer Classic at McCutchan Stadium.
  • The Aces are in search of their first win since a 1-0 win over UNC Asheville on Sept. 14.
  • Evansville's last Missouri Valley Conference win came in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Bradley on Nov.  3, 2018 that secured an MVC Tournament berth for the Aces.
  • Valparaiso sits six points clear of the Aces in MVC stadnings with wins over UE and Drake.
  • The Crusaders nearly secured the upset of the MVC season at Missouri State on Wednesday. Valparaiso owned a 2-0 lead over the Bears in the second half before Missouri State scored two second half goals to force overtime and eventually scored the game winner off the foot of Matthew Bentley in the first overtime period.
  • Mason Marcey has led the way offensively for Valpo this season, scoring a team-best four goals.
  • In goal, the Crusaders have relied on Edvin Holst, who has compiled a 1.97 goals-against average and made 65 saves.
