Womens Basketball returs to Meeks on Tuesday against EIU

EVANSVILLE – Back for its first true home game of the regular season, the University of Evansville women's basketball team plays host to Eastern Illinois on Tuesday evening inside Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

Last Game: SIUE 85, Evansville 74
  • A trio of Aces finished in double-figures as sophomore A'Niah Griffin scored 16 points in her return to lead Evansville. Also finishing in double-digits were redshirt junior Jada Poland with 14 points and freshman Abby Feit with 10.
  • Evansville founds its shooting stroke early in the game, fueled by the return of Griffin. Griffin scored six early points for the Aces and helped Evansville earn a 14-8 lead before the first media break.
  • SIUE bounced back to close the quarter on a 14-4 run before Griffin hit a three to cut the Cougars' lead to 22-21.
  • The second quarter saw the Cougars continue to shoot at a high percentage as SIUE's lead grew to six at 29-23.
  • Evansville answered with back-to-back triples from junior Alexis Thomas to tie the game at 29. The Aces kept pace with SIUE until the under five timeout, trailing by three at 34-31.
  • Following the media timeout, the Cougars closed the half on a 12-5 run, taking a 46-36 lead at halftime.
  • The margin remained the same for the Aces in the third quarter as Evansville had to claw back from a 15-point deficit.
  • Evansville hit a pair of threes late, delivered by Griffin and Feit, to hold the Cougars' lead to just 10 at 62-52 heading into the final period.
  • In the fourth quarter, Evansville continued its rhythm from beyond the arc as Thomas and Feit both hit threes to cut the SIUE advantage to just five with 2:56 left in the contest.
  • Over the final three minutes, SIUE shot 2-2 from the field and went 5-8 from the charity stripe to pull away and secure the 85-74 win.
Previewing the Matchup
  • Evansville and Eastern Illinois are meeting for the 16th time with the Panthers owning an 11-5 advantage in the series.
  • The Aces and Panthers last met during the 2017-18 season as EIU captured a 79-52 win in Charleston, Ill. on Nov. 18, 2017.
  • Only one Ace that played in the previous meeting is still on the roster for Evansville as senior Kaylan Coffman recorded five rebounds and a block in the contest.
  • The last time the two sides met in Evansville, the Aces dominated EIU, earning an 81-46 win at the Ford Center on Nov. 8, 2013.
  • Rarely have the Aces and Panthers played a close game between each other as just two of 16 meetings have been within 10 points.
  • The largest margin of victory in the series is 46 in a 102-56 win for EIU during the 1983-84 season.
  • The Panthers come into Tuesday's matchup with a 2-2 overall record, most recently defeating UIC, 80-45 on the road on Saturday.
  • Both of the Panthers' losses this season have come to Missouri Valley Conference teams, losing to Indiana State, 59-57, on Nov. 10 and falling to Loyola, 67-51, on Nov. 13.
  • Junior Karle Pace leads EIU offensively, averaging 18.7 points per game through three games this season.
  • In all, four Panthers are averaging double-figures in scoring as EIU has relied its top four scorers this season.
