Women's Basketball opens regular season with Education Day matchup

EVANSVILLE – After an impressive exhibition opener, the University of Evansville women's basketball team opens its regular season with a contest against Brescia University (Ky.) on Education Day inside the Ford Center at 11 AM.

Last Game: Evansville 102, Oakland City 61
  • Freshman Abby Feit dominated in her 25-minute debut, scoring a game-high 32 points to go along with seven rebounds, seven steals, and three blocks.
  • In all, the Aces' defensive effort shined, as Evansville created 51 Oakland City turnovers, grabbing 31 steals in the game.
  • The lead ballooned early for the Aces as Evansville jumped out to an 8-2 lead before the first quarter media timeout with Feit scoring all eight.
  • Evansville continued to push its lead, holding a 31-7 advantage after one quarter.
  • It was much of the same story in the second stanza when the Aces' lead reached 41 at the conclusion of the opening half with Evansville holding a 56-15 lead.
  • Evansville continued to capitalize on Might Oaks' turnovers as the Aces scored 12 points in the third quarter off turnovers, building its lead to 54 at 82-28 at the end of the third period.
  • The Aces lead reached its largest mark of 65 when sophomore Makayla Wallace slipped through the defense for a lay-in that grew Evansville's lead to 98-33 with 3:36 left in the game.
  • The Aces concluded the game on a good note, knocking-down their last four free throws in a 102-41 win.
Previewing the Matchup
  • Evansville and Brescia are meeting for the first time on Tuesday morning.
  • The Aces have faced a current member of the River States Conference 11 times with Evansville holding a 7-4 record against IU Southeast with the last meeting coming in 1983.
  • Under head coach Matt Ruffing, the Aces are 1-2 in regular season openers with the victory coming in a thrilling 89-81 win over Murray State on Nov. 12, 2017.
  • Evansville has won four of its last five season-openers at home with the last loss coming in a 66-62 defeat to the hands of Cleveland State on Nov. 12, 2016.
  • The Aces last played in an Education Day game at the Ford Center on Dec. 6, 2016 when Evansville earned a 108-68 win over Oakland City.
  • Brescia enters Tuesday's game with four regular season games under its belts, including a matchup with Kentucky Christian on Monday night, holding an 0-3 record.
  • Junior Cassidy Moss has paced the Bearcats so far this season, averaging 10.3 points per game.
