CARBONDALE, Ill. - It was another weekend of rewriting the University of Evansville indoor track program's record book, as the men's and women's teams competed at the Don Denoon Invitational this weekend.
FINAL RESULTS
On the men's side, junior Stanley Chepchieng had his winning streak in the triple jump snapped, but just barely, finishing second with a successful attempt of 13.99 meters. That jump broke his own school record, set earlier this season. In the hotly contested pole vault, sophomore Ian Alberts finished third with a successful attempt of 4.25 meters.Â
Other men's record breakers include Michael Boots who broke teammate Ryan Freeman's school mark in the shot put, with a' throw 13.35 meters, good enough for a ninth place finish and an improvement of over two feet from his best throw in the Mastodon Invitational in Fort Wayne two weeks ago. Freeman finished two spots behind Boots, with a throw of 12.66 meters. Freshman speedster Brendon Smith lowered his own record in the men's 200 meters with a time of 24.07.Â
On the women's side, sophomore distance runner Anna Lowry continued her strong season on the track, lowering her program best in the 3000 meters by 19 seconds with a time of 10:20:21, which landed her the fourth position in the standings. Meanwhile, freshman leaper Taiza Alexander broke her own program record in the long jump with distance of 4.98 meters, finishing the seventh in the competition.
Another impressive Aces performance came in the men's long jump, where freshman Nick Ryan took fifth place with a leap of 6.73 meters, with Kody Line and Alan Kersteins taking seventh and eighth, respectively.Â
The University of Evansville indoor track teams will wrap up the regular season in the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill. on February 15th.Â
